Change of leadership, yellow flags and punishments move the dawn to sarthe; Ferrari and BMW face problems




The eighth time of the prestigious 24 hours of Le Mans began with Ferrari firmly in the general leadership, while VDS Panis #48 dictated the rhythm on LMP2 and WRT, with the car n. 46, dominated between LMGT3.

The dawn from Saturday to Sunday was marked by a Drive-Through applied to car #50 of Ferrari, for the violation of the rules of the yellow flag caused by McLaren #95 of United Autospores. The penalty dropped the car of the Italian team from the first three positions in fourth place.

And the punishments did not stop there: Cadillac Whelen #311, the Brazilian car of Felipe Drunovich Brazilian and Peugeot #93 were also penalized for the infringements of the yellow flag among the hypercars. In GTS, Corvette #81 received a punishment. Finally, the commissioners penalized Alpine #35 from the touch of Paul-Loup Chatin on the Peugeot #94 of Loïc Duval.

The ninth time of the competition began with a change in the lead between Ferrari, with the opening passage of the Ft Corse #83 to the car #51 and guaranteeing the Italian team hat -trick with hypercar #50. In fourth position, Porsche #6 followed the leaders closely, followed by Toyota #8.

In Sarthe, Peugeot’s situation was not the best: the car n. 93 spent a lot of time in the boxes with a driving system, losing five laps compared to leaders.

Among the LMP2, the leadership remained with VDS Panis Racing #48, while in LMGT3 the command is temporarily changed, with the #92 car of Manthey which passed the BMW #46 of the WRT team.

With ten hours of running on the time trial, Felipe Dargavich’s Porsche Whelen #311 began to face problems and returned to the pits, being about five laps behind the leader. In the general leadership, Porsche #6 broke Ferrari and took the tip after Ferrari #51 suffered two penalties and fell to the eighth.

In the LMP2 class, the domain followed with the car n. 48 of the VDS Panis races. In GTS, the leadership moved to the sight of them, with BMW #46 in the vice-leader.

At the end of the eleventh hour, the BMW #46, which brought between LMGT3, caused the loss of tangency and flee to the gravel on the Porsche curve. The rescue team helped the car as she left the gravel and Van der Linde managed to return to the track, heading directly to the pits. With three laps late in the leader after repairs, the car returned to the track, but soon she returned to the pits for a longer stop.

With the fall of the BMW, LMGT3 leadership was played between Manthey #92 and Ferrari #21 of AF Corse.

Porsche was heading in general advantage with the car n. 6, followed by Toyota #8 in the second classified and Ferrari AF CSE #83 closing the podium. It is curious that, until the decima first time of trial, no security cars had been activated.
