Iranian parliamentarians are preparing a bill that could induce Tehran to leave the treaty of non -nuclear non -proliferation, said the Foreign Ministry on Monday, reiterating Tehran’s official position against the development of nuclear weapons.
“In light of recent events, we will make an appropriate decision. The government must apply the bills of Parliament, but this proposal is prepared only and we will coordinate it in the subsequent phases with the Parliament,” said the ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baghaei, when asked during a press conference on the possibility of Tehran who left TNP.
The TNP, which Iran ratified in 1970, guarantees the countries the right to seek civil nuclear energy in exchange for the requirement that renounces atomic weapons and collaborate with the United Nations nuclear surveillance body, Aiea.
Israel started bombing Iran last week, saying that Tehran was about to build a nuclear bomb. Iran has always said that its nuclear program is peaceful, although the AIE declared last week that Tehran was violating its obligations with the TNP.
President Masoud Pezeshkian reiterated on Monday that nuclear weapons are contrary to a religious decree of the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The Parliament, while a parliamentarian had not been made any decision on the departure of the TNP, while a parliamentarian declared that the proposal was in the early stages of the legal process.
Baghaei said that events such as Israel’s attack “naturally influence the strategic decisions of the state”, observing that Israel’s attack followed the resolution of the AIEA, which suggested that he was the culprit.
“Those who voted in favor of the resolution prepared the earth for the attack,” Baghaei said.
Israel, who has never joined the TNP, is widely considered by regional governments as nuclear weapons they possess, although it does not confirm it or denies it.
“The Zionist regime is the only owner of weapons of mass destruction in the region,” said Baghaei.
