Actress Lashana Lynch (“No Time to Die”) was cast to play Rita Marley, the wife of Bob Marley, in the singer’s biopic in development at Paramount.
She will be paired with actor Kingsley Ben-Adir, who played activist Malcolm X in the movie “A Night in Miami”.
Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, who has signed another recent biopic, “King Richard – Creating Champions”, about the father of tennis players Venus and Serena Williams.
Although born in England, Lynch is of Jamaican descent and has won the blessings of Rita herself and her children for playing the role.
Rita, Ziggy and Cedella Marley are among the producers of the film, which has a screenplay by Green and Zach Baylin (also from “King Richard”).
Responsible for spreading reggae around the world, the Jamaican singer died in 1981, at the age of 36, of cancer. But despite his youth, he has left classics like “Get Up, Stand Up”, “One Love”, “No Woman, No Cry” and “Could You Be Loved” immortalized in the history of world pop music.
