From classics restored with Carmen Miranda to tribute to female mood in Brazilian cinema, the event brings together films from 10 states
THE 20th edition of Cineop, Ouro Preto Cinema Show, happens from June 25 to 30, 2025, and brings a free schedule that brings together 147 Moviesproduced in 10 Brazilian States (MG, RJ, SP, PE, CE, ES, BA, AM, PR and RN) and 5 countries. The exhibitions are distributed in 12 Themed Exhibitionswhich address the preservation of cinema such as heritage, history and education.
This year, the Cineop Honors the actress Marisa Orthicon of Brazilian humor, recognized by characters who subvert female stereotypes. The actress is celebrated within the historical theme of the festival, which highlights the role of Women’s humor in Brazilian cinema – A space still in dispute and transformation.
Among the highlights of the preservation show are restored works as Hello hello carnival(1936), starring Carmen Miranda, and The wife of all(1969), by Rogério Sganzerla. The program also pays tribute to the 95th anniversary of the movie and the 40th anniversary of the Audiovisual Technical Center (CTAV), reaffirming the festival’s mission to treat cinema as a living memory.
THE EDUCATION SHOW brings the theme “Places of memory: collections and access”with films made in schools and communities, and highlights the protagonism of students in creative processes. The featureJequi’s messagefrom miner Igor Amin, is part of the migrinha – program dedicated to children and children.
In addition to the exhibitions, Cineop promotes strategic meetings such as the 20th National Meeting of Audiovisual Archives and the XVII KINO NETWORK FORUMseven workshops, five international masterclasses, conversation wheels and shows. One of the highlights is the opening debate: “Preservation: the soul of Brazilian audiovisual”with representatives of institutions and public policies in the sector.
All programming is in person in Ouro Preto, with part of the content also available online on the show’s platforms.
