The company marked the first points of a Brazilian pilot in the category from the Abu Dhabi GP, in 2017, with Felipe Massa

Gabriel Bortoleto was chosen by fans as a pilot of Austria GP, a well -deserved recognition. In his eleventh Formula 1 race, the Brazilian lived the best weekend from his debut in the category. So far he has achieved his best result in the classifications, guaranteeing eighth place on the grid.

In the race, starting from the eighth position, Bortoleto showed confidence. He has passed expert opponents such as Pierre Gasly and his teammate in Sauber, Nico Hülkenberg. He even occupied sixth place, keeping a solid advantage of about six seconds for Haas Esteban Ocon.

He was still approaching George Russell, who was fifth with Mercedes, but the British managed to hold the position. During the mandatory stops, Sauber carried out efficient work on the pits, but Bortoleto ended up losing two positions during tire exchanges and returned to the eighth.

In the final part of the race, Gabriel maintained a good pace and was decreasing the difference for Fernando Alonso, who ranked seventh. The Brazilian pressed the two -stroke champion until the last lap, but he was unable to overcome.

The eighth place produced four points, which are also the first of a Brazilian in Formula 1 since 2017, when Felipe Massa marked a point for the tenth in his farewell to the category, still by Williams. After the flag, Bortoleto was welcomed by Fernando Alonso, who, in addition to his rival on the track, is also his manager. Information on the company, said the Brazilian:

“It is nice to be the driver of the day, but also adding these points for the team is very important, you know? For everyone’s trust. The team has done an extraordinary job today. Every time the rhythm started to fall, they called me to the pits, they put me with a better tire and gave me new possibilities to fight the points.”

Gabriel also took the opportunity to send a message to the Brazilians

“Thank you all. Thank you all for your support. In the end we won the first points and now we are looking for even more”
