BRICS’s final text trade mentions “serious concerns” with rates

The leader’s meeting started this Sunday (6) in Rio de Janeiro

The Brics countries have expressed “serious concerns” with the escalation of protectionism and unilateral commercial measures, in reference to the tariff war triggered by the President of the United States Donald Trump.

This is the declaration in the draft of the final declaration of the Leadership meeting that begins today (6) in Rio de Janeiro, with which the negotiators agreed and obtained from the CNN Brazil.

“We express serious concerns about the increase in unilateral and non -Autoriffs tariff measures that distort trade and are incompatible with the rules of the World Commerce Organization (OMC)”, says an extract from the document.

Although there is no direct mention to the United States, the people involved in the negotiations of the declaration affirm that Trump is the goal. In addition, there are references to protectionism “based on the pretext of environmental reasons”, which refers to the measures adopted in the past by the European Union against Brazilian agri -food products.

The anti -EU’s anti -apidestation law, which should enter into force at the beginning of 2026, is aimed at a list of Brazilian meat and soy products with Indonesian palm oil.

“The proliferation of commercial restrictive measures, in the form of indiscriminate increases in rates and non -self -confectionery measures or protectionism under the pretext of environmental objectives, threatens to further reduce global trade, interrupt global supply chains and introduce uncertainties in international economic and commercial activity”, adds the text.
