Sports with four -cylinder engine at AMG do not pack and the brand reviews their next steps
Current Mercedes-AMG C63 AND GLC 63 They are the most powerful ever produced by the brand, with 680 HP generated by a hybrid set that combines the four -cylinder turbo engine (139l m) with an electric motor on the rear axle. However, even with impressive performances, this configuration did not satisfy the traditional AMG audience, which expected something more visceral, such as the old Biturbo V8.
Mercedes-AMG itself recognized him during the presentation of the GT XX electrical concept. A brand manager told the magazine Paddle That, although the four cylinders are one of the most advanced driving sets ever placed in a production car, “did not capture our traditional customers”.
Frequent criticism include the loss of characteristic sound, the less engaging sensation at the wheel and the excessive weight of the car. OC 63, for example, exceeds 2 tons.
Low acceptance condemned to four cylinder hybrid cylinders
With the acceptance provided below, AMG has already decided to withdraw the four hybrid cylinders, even without an exact date. The replacement should take place by the end of 2026, when the new Euro 7 emissions standard is effective. According to the brand, the adaptation of the engine M 139 to new environmental requirements would be financially impossible.
This change will influence not only the C63 and GLC63 models, but also the GT43, SL43 and 45 models, such as A45 and Cla45, all equipped with the same basic engine.

AMG’s future will be led by two fronts: more sophisticated combustion performances and combustion engines with multiple cylinders and a certain level of electrification. On the electric side, the concept of GT XX anticipates a new generation of sports, with axial flow engines and ultra -rend charging capacity of up to 850 kW.
In the combustion models, the technical director of Mercedes Markus Schäfer has confirmed the continuity of six-cylinder in-line and V8 engines, all with hybrid light (48 V) or plug-in technology. The new V8, for example, is being developed with a flat elbow tree, similar to the Ferrari Super Sport, and already adapted to Euro 7.
The future of the C63 sports sedan is still uncertain

Despite this news, the future of C63 is still unknown. It is said that it is that the current C43 (also with Turbo 2.0 engine) are replaced by a new C53, with a six -cylinder motor 256m – the same used in E53.
However, there is a technical obstacle: when the current C -Class (W206 code) was launched in 2021, Mercedes clarified that its architecture has only four -cylinder engines. The six -cylinder online are too long. Interestingly, the V8, being shorter, could adapt more easily to the motor safe. Therefore, a possible return from V8 to C63 is not totally discarded.
