Witkoff will meet the authorities in Israel and resume in Sardinia
The envoy of the President of the United States Donald Trump in the Middle East Steve Witkoff landed Thursday in the southern region in Italy to advance the preliminary phases of the Gaza track and obstacles to peace negotiations.
The American will meet the Minister of Strategic Affairs of Israel, Ron Dermer and the Prime Minister of Qatar, Mohammed Bin Abdulrahan at Thani, aboard one of the megaia moved on the coast of the city of Gallura, a luxury destination frequented by the so -called VIPs, even today.
The information was released in an X publication of the Journalist Barak Ravid of the American News Portal Axios, who had provided that the headquarters of the meeting would be Rome. The White House, in turn, only confirmed that Witkoff would take a trip “to Europe”.
According to reports, one of the exclusive hotels on the “Costa di Smeraldo” would have been warned and may have reserved one of the rooms of Witkoff, which should remain on the island until next Sunday (27).
Trump’s envoy would have arrived in Italy in secret on an unofficial level with minimal security measures put into practice by local authorities.
The journey is made after Hamas confirmed that he had sent his response to Israel’s proposal to one 60 -day fire to Gaza, with negotiators of both sides holding indirect conversations with mediators in Qatar.
“Hamas has just presented their response to the mediators and that of the Palestinian factions to the proposal to cease fire,” said the Islamic fundamentalist movement a declaration published on Telegram.
The answer includes proposals for amendments to the clauses of access to humanitarian aid, maps of the areas where the Israeli army must be withdrawn and guarantee the definitive end of the war, according to a Palestinian source that is familiar with the negotiations in progress in Doha.
Negotiators are trying to agree on a respite that would allow the release of 10 Israeli hostages in exchange for an unrupted number of Palestinian prisoners. But the conversations have dragged for more than two weeks without a turning point, with each part that has accused the other of refusing to give in to important requests.
For Israel, the dismantling of military skills and Hamas governance is not negotiable, while the group requires solid guarantees for a lasting truce, a complete withdrawal of Israeli troops and the free flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Yesterday (23), the spokesman for the Israeli government David Mencer accused Hamas of hindering negotiations. “Israel accepted the Qatar proposal and the updated proposal of the special American envoy Steve Witkoff. I am Hamas who rejects it,” he told the press, adding that Israeli negotiators were still in Doha and the discussions continued.
