Oscar winner Sam Mendes, Oscar winner for “American Beauty” (2000) and nominated for “1917” (2020), will direct the pilot of a new comedy series by Armando Iannucci, the creator of “Veep”.
Titled “The Franchise” and developed for pay channel HBO, the attraction aims to satirize Hollywood today, following a team working on the production of a superhero movie.
Iannucci and Mendes will produce the project, written by screenwriters Jon Brown (“Dead Pixels”) and Keith Akushie (“Siblings”).
Although best known for his films, Sam Mendes has a long career as a television producer, having worked on series such as “Penny Dreadful”, “Informer” and “Britannia”. But this will be the first time he will direct an episode of the series.
Currently, the director is working on the post-production of his new film, entitled “Empire of Light”, a declaration of love for the cinemas of the past, which is scheduled for release in December.
