What is it about?
Originally released in 1997, the film is a milestone in world cinema. With a powerful ecological message, besides visually stunning, the film tells the journey of young warrior Ashitaka in a fantastic feudal Japan, where human and nature forces wage deep conflict.
Young Prince Ashitaka is cursed by a demon and sets out on a journey to find a cure. He ends up reaching a region devastated by conflicts between humans – represented by Lady Eboshi and his Iron City – and the forest spirits, led by San, the mysterious “Princess Mononoke”, a young woman created by giant wolves and relentless defender of the forest. Ashitaka tries to understand both sides of the conflict and seeks a path of balance and coexistence. The film is a complex fable that navigates and reflects on numerous topics, such as coexistence, identity, responsibility and balance.

From August 21, 2025, old fans and new generations will be able to experience the masterpiece of Hayao Miyazaki how it was originally conceived: in the immersion of the large screen.
The relaunch is part of a broader celebration of Studio Ghibli’s 40 -year legacy, whose animations have gained public and criticism around the world. Restored in high definition and with subtitled exhibition option, the feature’s return to the IMAX cinematic circuit promises to thrill and inspire the audience with its timeless narrative, Joe Hisaishi’s striking soundtrack and craft animation that remains impressive even after almost three decades.
