Italian brand honors the director’s legacy with film recreations of classics such as 2001: an odyssey in space and mechanical orange
THE Gucci plunged into the cinematic universe of Stanley Kubrick in your latest fashion campaign. With creative direction of Alessandro Michelethe collection provides tribute to the singular aesthetics of the legendary filmmaker, recreating iconic scenes of his most acclaimed films with Italian brand costumes.
The campaign, entitled Exquisite Guccipresents images and videos in which models appear inserted in reconstructed scenarios of works such as 2001: A odyssey in space (1968), The enlightened (1980), Mechanical orange (1971), Barry Lyndon (1975), Eye -tuned (1999) and Spartacus (1960). The initiative is a collaboration with the family producer Kubrickensuring fidelity to the filmmaker’s visual language.
The pieces in the collection combine the eccentric luxury characteristic of Gucci with the symbolic and disturbing universe of Kubrickcreating a fusion between fashion, art and cinema. The costumes, ranging from baroque dresses to uniforms inspired by Droogs of Mechanical orangefunction as a bridge between the film past and contemporary aesthetics.
“Stanley Kubrick was a master of composition, visual narrative and aesthetic provocation. This campaign is a love letter to his work, which so influenced the cultural imagination” Alessandro Michele.
The management of the campaign also featured the work of photographer Mert Alas and filmmaker Harmony Korine, who helped create the surreal and cinematic atmosphere of advertising pieces. Check out the video:
