Vandalism affects the new accessibility structures in the historic center of Porto Alegre

The town hall implemented four kilometers of tactile floor, reporting with reliefs on the floor to drive the walk in the central quadrangle area

In less than 72 hours, the three tactile maps installed in the central quadrangle in the historic center have undergone vandalism. The equipment, created to guide people with visually -sighted or panoramic parties, were placed at the democratic corner and at the intersection of Rua Dos Andradas with Uruguay last Friday.

Two maps had torn acrylic plates, leaving only the pedestals. The third was damaged in one of the important pieces. The equipment is part of the set of accessibility improvements in the redevelopment works of the region.

The city has implemented 4 km of the tactile floor route, reporting with reliefs on the floor to guide the walk in the area of the central quadrangle.

Seven roads received the special material: Otávio Rocha, volunteers of the homeland, Doctor Flores, Marshal Floriano, Andradas, Uruguay and Vigário José Inácio. In Uruguay Street, new handrails have been set on the sidewalks.

The Municipal Secretariat of Works and Infrastructure (Smoi) is responsible for the remodeling of the historic center and has reported to the company responsible for the execution of the services. The vandalized material will be replaced by another duration.

“It is a pity that every day we have to face vandalism in our city. The historic center receives a series of interventions to improve citizens’ lives, move the economy and increase the sense of security”, the owner of Smoi André Flores.
