The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit China for the first time in over seven years, said a government source on Wednesday in another sign of diplomatic defrosting with Beijing with the increase in tensions with the United States.
It will go to China for a Shanghai Cooperation Organization (OCX) summit which begins on August 31st, told Reuters the source of the government with a direct knowledge of the topic. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India did not immediately respond to a commentary request.
The journey will take place at a time when the relationship of India with the United States has to face its most serious crisis for years, after President Donald Trump has imposed the highest rates among Asian couples on the products imported from India and has applied a further penalty of 25% on India products, stating that the country matters directly or indirectly Russian oil.
The visit of ways to the Chinese city of Tianjin for the OCX summit, a political and security group of Aurasia that includes Russia, will be the first since June 2018. Subsequently, the Sino-Indian ties drastically deteriorated after a military clash during their disputed Himalayan border in 2020.
The President of Modes and Chinese XI Jinping spoke on the sidelines of a Brics summit in Russia in October, which led to a defrosting. The gigantic Asian neighbors are now slowly disarming the tensions that have compromised commercial relations and travel between the two countries.
Trump also threatened to charge an additional 10% rate on imports of members of the BRICS group to “align with anti -American policies”.
