Joy Brazil It is a filmic essay on Brazilian identity, inspired by the singer’s life and work, in a mix of documentary and expanded cinema, with artistic facilities and interactivities and about 35 songs on the soundtrack, between unpublished compositions made for the project and great MPB classics.
The script brings together letters that reflect Brazil from yesterday and today, valuing Brazilian multiculturality, with songs from different composers and eras. Among the names are Ary Barroso and João Bosco, both from Zona da Mata Mineira, as well as Chico Buarque, Sergio Bardotti, Luis Bacalov – whose compositions are first interpreted by Maria Alcina. The trail also includes works by Caetano Veloso, Luiz Gonzaga, Aldir Blanc, Neguinho da Beija-Flor, Sérgio Sampaio, Chacal, Moraes Moreira, Anastasia, Liane, Gambier, Wado, Zeca Baleiro and Arnaldo Antunes.
In addition, the film incorporates unpublished songs of new talents, winners of the Cinema Cinema Music Contest, held by the project in 2023. Among the revelations are Thaylis Carneiro, Levi Marcelino, Emanuel Messias, Eric do Vale and Salvador Sassá – all natural from Cataguases.
Joy Brazil Establishes direct dialogues with the various artistic languages that make up cinema. “Filmic facilities”, such as in symbolic spaces of the city, will happen. These include waterfall projections at the Humberto Mauro Portal Monument, music scenes at Francisco Bologna Acoustics, in honor of the musician Patápio Silva, as well as locations in Burle Marx gardens, works by Oscar Niemeyer, Cândido Portinari and the cataguasense painter Djanira.
Community participation is one of the pillars of the project. Local musicians have been invited to the recordings, and residents of the region will have the opportunity to participate in scenes, such as the one that will be filmed in the Taquara Preta community, with the Unidos do Taquara Preta samba school-which, in 1989, honored Maria Alcina with a samba-plot dedicated to the artist, with her presence at that year’s parade. The scene will also feature the traditional block bursts, strengthening the ties between popular culture, music and cinema. Interested parties should access the film’s website and register previously.
The production of the feature film has a schedule over the second half of 2025. The official release is expected to take place in the second half of 2026.
