Just days after Lady Gaga confirmed her involvement in ‘Joker 2’, another Hollywood star has expressed interest in returning to the DC Extended Universe. Idris Elba even explained his idea for his character’s next nemesis.
The British actor already had his first DC movie experience, bringing Bloodsport to life in “The Suicide Squad,” which was directed by James Gunn and served as a reboot/sequel to David Ayer’s “Suicide Squad.”
In “The Suicide Squad,” Bloodsport was sent to prison for shooting Superman with a kryptonite bullet, which certainly left the hero pretty badly injured.
Idris Elba’s character was one of the few members of Task Force X to survive the battle against Starro, and although the assassin blackmailed Amanda Waller to free him and his team, his fate in the DCEU is unknown so far .
The 49-year-old interpreter is convinced that Bloodsport should return to the big screen and already has a good idea of what his return should be.
Idris Elba wants to take on Superman in the DCEU
In an interview for “Variety”, published on August 9, 2022, Idris Elba assured that he has the availability to make Bloodsport again, especially if his nemesis in turn is Man of Steel.
Although the actor did not go into detail about the story he would like to tell, there are several examples of conflicts between these two characters in comics and animated series that could be adapted into a film. Here are the most exciting ones.
Bloodsport vs Superman: the story of their first confrontation
In the comics, Bloodsport debuted in 1987’s “Superman Vol 2 #4,” as a soldier who becomes obsessed with the Vietnam War after his brother is nearly killed in that conflict.
Seeing his vulnerability and great fighting skills, Lex Luthor decides to convince Bloodsport to attack Superman with a bullet of kryptonite, a mineral from the planet Krypton that can kill the hero.
Thanks to the intervention of Jimmy Olsen, this incident did not end in tragedy, as he managed to distract the attacker long enough for Superman to recover.
In the DCEU, this story could be a prequel to the events we saw in “The Suicide Squad,” a way to explain why Bloodsport was in prison, and a great opportunity to see Superman cornered by a man other than Batman.
Bloodsport and the Suicide Squad battle an ‘evil Superman’
In the film, the remaining members of Task Force X set off for an unknown destination after defeating Starro. Their next adventure could lead them to another universe, where they will meet their worst nightmare: an evil Superman.
In 2021’s Suicide Squad #4, Amanda Waller sends Bloodsport and his team to Earth-3 to try to recruit a new villain for his personal army.
On this new Earth they encounter the Crime Syndicate, an alternate version of the Justice League, in which its members are supervillains. Among them is Ultraman, the evil equivalent of Superman. As expected, both teams collide in a devastating battle, in which the Suicide Squad has little chance of winning.
This story could be the cover letter for the DC multiverse, plus it will serve to convince Henry Cavill to take up the cape again to bring a dark version of his character to life.
Bloodsport could face a ‘haunted Superman’
Superman is one of the strongest heroes in the world, but there are several ways to defeat him other than Kryptonite, such as magic and mind control.
Despite appearances, Poison Ivy is a terrifying villain, having the ability to create pheromones capable of driving her opponents mad with love and using this artificial affection to her advantage.
Such was the case in the pages of “Batman: Hush,” where the villain and defender of nature used her powers to enchant Superman and use him as her “knight” in a fight against Batman and Catwoman.
“The Suicide Squad 2” could be the setting not only for Poison Ivy’s appearance in the DCEU, but also for Bloodsport and Harley Quinn’s showdown against an obsessed Superman.
Bloodsport in a new group of villains fighting against Superman
There’s no guarantee that Bloodsport will continue alongside his fellow Task Force X members, so a new film featuring Idris Elba’s character could see him as part of a new team of supervillains.
In the animated series “Justice League Unlimited”, Bloodsport was part of a society of villains led by Gorilla Grodd. These characters clashed with Lex Luthor and his allies despite being “on the same side”.
In the DCEU, several villains could form a team with the goal of killing Superman, but the betrayal of one member of the alliance (Lex Luthor or Bloodsport himself) could cause a bloody fight with no quarter, where the superhero would be the less. problems for the world.
