Pope Leo XIV asked for Sunday (31) during the celebration of Angelus in the Vatican that the “Pandemia delle Armi” on the planet is immediately “interrupted”.
In his speech, the leader of the Catholic Church mentioned the attack on Minneapolis in the United States and the war in Ukraine.
“Our prayers are from the victims of the shooting in Minneapolis, especially for children, and that the pandemic of large and small weapons that is infecting our world is interrupted,” he said.
The religious mentioned that the “voice of weapons must be silenced” so that it is possible to “raise the voice of fraternity and justice”. In addition, Leo XIV reiterated an “urgent” appeal for peace in Eastern Europe.
“Unfortunately, the war in Ukraine continues to sow death and destruction and in recent times has affected several cities, including the capital, Kiev. I renew my closeness to the Ukrainian people and undermines everyone in order not to give in to indifference, but to bring it closer through prayer and the concrete charity gestures,” he said.
Finally, the American Robert Francis Prevost said that the time has come for the managers of Ukrainian soil “to resign the resignation of the logic of weapons and take the way to negotiate and peace with the support of the international community”.
