Cinemporapor that the internet is so angry with the new adaptation of ‘O Morro dos Ventos howling’?

The internet did not forgive the first teaser of the new adaptation of The Horro dos Ventos Uivantreleased by Warner Bros. This Wednesday (3). Production, directed by Emerald Fennell (Beautiful revenge), brings Margot Robbie (Barbie) and JACOB ELORDI (Saltburn) in central papers, but already accumulates controversy among fans of the work of Emily Brontë.

The reason for the controversy

The main reason for the revolt was the tone of the video: full of erotic, seductive and spicy scenes, something that does not exist in the original book. The classic novel, published in 1847, portrays an intense, violent and abusive relationship, marked by obsession and tragedy, not by sensual eroticism shown in the preview.

The criticism, however, did not start now. Since the lineup of Elderi Like Heathcliff, many questioned the choice. In the book, the character is described as an orphan of Gypsy origin, marked by prejudice and social exclusion – characteristics that are not reflected in the profile of the Australian actor. Another point raised was the characterization of Margot Robbie Like Catherine Earnshaw: blonde and glamorous, far from the original description of the character, who is not blonde.

What is the story about?

The novel’s plot takes place in the Yorkshire region and follows the involvement of two families, the Earnshaw and the Lintonfrom the perspective of Mr. Lockwood, Thrushcross Grange Property tenant. Upon hearing the narrative of Nelly Dean, housekeeper of the Earnshaw family, he discovers the troubled story of love between Heathcliffan orphan adopted, and Catherine Earnshaw.

Other adaptations

The work of Emily Brontë It has had several versions for cinema and television. Most adaptations climbed white actors to play Heathcliff – a character that many scholars of the work interpret as racialized or brown – including Tom Hardy (Venom), Ralph Fiennes (Conclave), Timothy Dalton (007 – Marked for death) and Laurence Olivier (Hamlet). Only the 2011 film, directed by Andrea Arnoldthere was a black actor on the paper: James Howson.
