Two strong secondary tremors hit Afghanistan after the earthquakes who killed 2,200 people

On Friday two strong secondary tremors reached east of Afghanistan with 12 hours of difference, causing fears of more deaths and destruction on Friday, in a region where earthquakes killed about 2,200 people, while the rescue teams worked in the mountainous ground and a serious climate.

The survivors of the Region subject to earthquakes are struggling for basic needs. The United Nations and other agencies warn the critical need for resources, food, medical supplies and refuge, with the World Health Organization in search of funds of 4 million dollars.

The last secondary tremors occur after two earthquakes that devastated a nation already devastated by the war, poverty and reduction of help. The Taliban government estimated 2,205 deaths and 3,640 injured until Thursday.

The ambulances led to 13 people wounded after the 6.2 magnitude tremor that occurred on Thursday evening in the province of Nangarhar, with an epicenter in the Shiwa district, near the border with Pakistan, said the spokesman for regional health Naqululah Rahimi.

Ten people were discharged after treatment and three were in stable conditions, he added.

A witness of Reuters said that the details of the damage were still collected after continuous secondary tremors in Nangarhar, whose capital, Jalalabad, is located about 150 km from Cabul.

On Friday, the 5.4 magnitude earthquake reached the country -east of the country at a depth of 10 km, according to the German Geoscience Research Center (GFZ), a few hours after Thursday’s event.

With houses built mainly by dry masonry, stone and wood, some families preferred to be outdoors to protect themselves from shock instead of returning home.

The residents of the Nurgal district in Kunar left their homes to live in curtains, in the plateaus near a river or outdoors, for fear of new tremors.

Falls and land stones have blocked access to some seriously affected villages, delaying the rescue and help efforts, they said.

The first earthquake of the week, of Magnitude 6, just before Sunday midnight, was one of the most fatal in Afghanistan, causing damage and destruction in the provinces of Nangarhar and Kunar when he reached a 10 km surface depth.

A second earthquake of magnitude 5.5 Tuesday caused panic and interrupted the rescue efforts, sliding the rocks through the mountains and banned the roads towards the villages in remote areas.

The two initial earthquakes rooted the villages in both provinces, destroying more than 6,700 houses and the rescue teams removed the bodies from Thursday’s rubble.

Earthquakes in Afghanistan occur mainly in the Hindu mountain range, where Indian and Eurasian tectonic plaques meet.
