The Lebanon Office accepted a plan of the army on Friday to disarm Hezbollah and said that the military would start to perform it without establishing a deadline for implementation and warning that the army has limited capacities.
The disarmament of Hezbollah, a theme that divides opinions in the country, took on the center of attention into Lebanon from the devastating last year war with Israel, which has reversed a long balance of power by the Shiite Muslim group supported by Iran.
The United States and Saudi Arabia, as well as those who oppose Hezbollah in Lebanon, in particular Christians and Sunnis, have strengthened requests for the group to abandon weapons.
But Hezbollah reacted, saying that it would be a serious step in the false step to discuss disarmament while Israel continues with its air attacks in Lebanon and occupies large extensions of the territory in the South. Four people were killed in Israeli attacks on Wednesday.
On Friday, the Lebanon office met for three hours, when the plan was presented by the army commander Rodolphe Haykal.
All five scyitic ministers of the cabinet left the session for protest as soon as Haykal entered the room.
Lebanese information minister Paul Morcos told journalists after the meeting that the government welcomed the plan, but did not say that the cabinet had formally approved him.
According to him, the army should begin to implement the plan according to its “limited” abilities of logistics, material and personal, which may require “more time (e) more effort”.
Haykal informed the ministers of the “limitations” faced by the army, the main is the continuous attacks of Israel to the Lebanese territory, according to Morcos.
He also said that Israel had not yet shown any commitment for the united States script aimed at disarming Hezbollah in exchange for the suspension of Israeli military operations in Lebanon, approved by the toilet last month.
“Therefore, Lebanon clarifies that any progress in the sense of implementation of the document continues to depend on the commitment of the other parties, in particular Israel,” said Morcos.
Last week, Israel reported that he would reduce his military presence in southern Lebanon if the army took measures to disarm Hezbollah.
