Bolivia wins Brazil and guarantees a place in the summary of the World Cup

A penalty goal of Miguel Terceros gave Bolivia a 1-0 victory over Brazil Tuesday, ensuring a place in the summary of the 2026 World Cup and keeping the hopes to return to the tournament in life after 32 years.

The victory at the El Alto stadium, on the last day of South American qualifications, brought Bolivia to 20 points and seventh in the classification, in front of Venezuela, who lost 6 x 3 against Colombia in Maturín.

Brazil ended in fifth place with 28 points. The advantage was with Argentina, followed by Ecuador, Colombia and Uruguay. Sixth place Paraguay also guaranteed the World Cup.

After reaching the summary, Bolivia will form a group of six teams that will participate in a new summary format, with two Concacaf teams, one from Africa, one from Asia and one from Oceania.

Two countries will win their place at the World Cup following the tournament, which will be played between 26 and 31 March 2026 in the Mexican cities of Monterrey and Guadalajara.

In Tuesday’s match, Brazil, which made several changes compared to the team that performed in the previous round, came out pressing at the beginning of the game, but retired after a few minutes due to the altitude of over 4,000 meters.

The home team then took advantage of the spaces and tried to open the markings with long distance kicks that were well contained by the expert goalkeeper Alisson. Bolivia attempted two land kicks to 16 and 26 minutes.

The young striker sold himself the penalty marked by the Chilean referee Cristian Garay for the lack of Bruno Guimarães on Roberto Carlos Fernández.
