Merck announces the launch in Brazil of a benefit called “Moments that Matter”. The initiative provides paid licenses so that employees can fully devote themselves to important family situations, in particular those who act as caregivers of relatives with serious or terminal diseases. According to the company, the polls indicate that from 5% to 20% of the employees of any company acts as informal caregivers at home. “As a health society, we recognize the vital role of these people and understand the challenges of those who take this family responsibility while maintaining the work routine. Therefore, we try to open ways so that our employees can be fully dedicated to family and personal life in the moments that count more”, says Arnaud Coelho, president of Merck Brazil.
One of the main pillars of the “moments that count” is the paid license of a maximum of 10 working days per year for the caregiver. The employee can be absent from this period to provide assistance to closed relatives – such as spouse, parents, children, stepchildren or in -letti – in case of severe or terminal illness. The absence can be requested simultaneously or divided, as necessary by the worker. The initiative also strengthens Merck’s adhesion to the global campaign to hire hugs, which highlights the importance of supporting caregivers and increasing awareness of the essential role they play.
The Director of Human Resources of Merck Brasil Franciele Ropelato underlines the company’s commitment to the quality of life of employees.
“We are proud to support those who often remain behind the scenes, reaffirming our commitment to the health and well -being of our team, as well as raising the debate on a theme of social relevance,” says Ropelato.
Studies show that up to 80% of long -term care in Europe are provided by informal caregivers, such as spouses and children, for example.
In addition to supporting caregiver, the program offers other advantages to the main personal events. Employees have the right to five working days of license in the event of a wedding, as well as for their birthday. In the event of a passion of close relative, the company guarantees up to five working days of license by the mourning of the family. In these days they do not discount the annual limit of 10 days reserved for assistance licenses or family expansion.
