Beautiful and full of energy at the age of 63, Paula Toller continues to visit: “I aged well”

One of the most iconic voices of Brazilian popular music, the singer Paula Toller turned 63 on 23/08/2025. With style and good with life, he celebrates four career decades with a look at the future.

The singer travels the town with the “loving” tour. By the end of this year, Paula will still perform in Balneário Camboriú, Belo Horizonte, Sao Paulo, Porto Alegre and Curitiba.

In the days before their birthday, the place chosen was Rio de Janeiro, their land. Paula opened the second week of the 15th edition of Rio Gastronomy in the Jockey Club. In a crowded and crowded show, he was entitled to the fact that he was one of the names confirmed for the event.

Paula Toller was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1962 and was raised by her father and paternal grandparents, while her mother abandoned her as a child.

Initially, Toller entered the industrial design and visual communication course at PUC-RJ. However, he identified himself with the artistic world after the Rock Band “Gang 90 and the absurd” Sing “Lost in the Jungle” in a Globo Group Festival.

In 1981, Paula founded the band Kid Abelha alongside the drummer Borja Borja, the guitarist Pedro Farah and Leoni, bassist, singer and main composer. He passed his shyness when he was invited to sing and became the group singer, as well as writing some songs.

Then the saxophonist George Israel (left) accepted the invitation and joined the group. With the departure of Pedro Farah, Bruno Fortunato was called to replace him. Goods and lions also left Kid Bee later.

The band obtained national recognition, right in their first participation with two songs, in Warner’s “Rock Voader” LP, who brought together bands published by the label. The first great success was the “distraction”.

Subsequently, invitations for the shows began to emerge and even performed in the 1985 edition of Rock in Rio. Warner Music has certainly hired the band, who released their first album “Seu Spaão” in 1984, with some of their main songs.

In fact, the song gained their initial gold album. The LP also has the biggest success of the band: “How I Want”, which has ensured the second gold album.

The group stopped during his existence and Paula ventured into a 1998 solo career as a soloist. His first album in this new condition takes his name and presents songs focused on MPB such as “Melting Satellitetes” and “1800 Hill”.

He also re-recorded songs in English: “Fly Me to the Moon” and “Patience” by Guns N ‘Roses and had the partnership of big names in Brazilian music such as Samuel Rosa on guitar, Harold Ferreti on drums, both members of the Skank band and the Sivuca multi-irrepressiveist.

After Kid Abelha communicates the holiday period, Paula made the album “Sónós” available in 2007, containing 14 new songs of their own and other composers. Some of the successes of this work are “everywhere”, “my love has moved to the moon” and “I want to go to the street”.

At the end of the following year he produced the CD and the DVD “Nossa”, which was recorded live during the tour of his previous album. The references are songs by Kid Bee and rewriting such as “Just Love”, Claudinho and Cheek, as well as “Mama Corage”, of Caetano Veloso.

In 2009, Toller discovered that he was a type 1 diabetes carrier and had to add insulin to his daily life. By the way, he approached some specialized NGOs on the theme for lessons, guide people and give advice on the disease.

Three years later, he inaugurated his latest solo work with the addition of a more dancing tone and the reconnection with the rock, its origin. The album “Overflowed” included unpublished songs such as “Caldaí” and the resumption of some successes: “I know Nothing” and “God (appears on television)”.

After several relationship problems that motivated the removal of the members of Kid Bee, the decision chosen was to put an end to the group in 2016. They produced 11 albums, including “sentimental education”, “Tomato”, “Kid”, “Autolove”, “Surf” and “Take Vida”.

Paula has been married to the director He Farias since 1987. They married after two years of appointments. Her husband guided several clips for children for children and has even contributed to composition with the singer and George.

The couple had only one son, Gabriel Toller Farias, and the singer dedicated two songs to him: “Eight years”, from the album that bears his name and rewritten by Adriana Calcanhoto. Another tribute is “Barcelona 16”, published in “Sónós”.

The first song inspired Paula to write the children’s book “Otto years”, published by the publisher of Salamandra and was released in the 2015 edition of the Biennale of the Book of Rio de Janeiro.

The singer also attended Leoni, his colleague Abelha for two years. They met at college and then created the band, but Leoni left her in 1986 after disagreements.

Another relationship was with Herbert Viana, a singer of the success of success between 1982 and 1984. Both used to compose in a partner. After the end, they returned to this practice only in 1996 with the song “A Moto”, from the album “My World revolves around you”.
