The result represents, in terms of volume, an increase of 16.3% compared to the 2023/24 harvest.
The production of wheat in Brazil has struck, again, record, reaching the mark of 350.2 million tons in the 2024-25 harvest.
The result represents, in terms of volume, an increase of 16.3% compared to the 2023/24 harvest, when 324.36 million tons were collected.
According to the twelfth survey on cereals, published on Thursday (11) by the National Supply Company (Conab), the result was guided, in particular by soy, corn, rice and cotton – responsible for 47 million of 49.1 million tons collected in the current harvest compared to the previous one.
“This growth has verified in the current harvest with respect to the 2023/24 cycle is attributed to the expansion of 1.9 million hectares in the cultivated area, from 79.9 million hectares last season to 81.7 million hectares in 2024/25, as well as the favorable climatic conditions, especially in the Midwest, in particular the Mato Grosso.
According to the company, the favorable climate has influenced the recovery in the national productivity of average crops of 13.7%, estimated at 4,284 pounds per hectare in the current cycle, while by 2023/24 it was 3,769 kg/ha.
Soy
Soy was the most cultivated product, recording an estimated record production of 171.5 million tons. This value corresponds to a maximum of 20.2 million tons of the previous harvest.
This “historical result” reflects, according to Conab, the increase in the seed area combined with the improvement of the national productivity of crops.
“Given the most favorable weather conditions in most of the production regions compared to 2023/24, the national average performance of the harvest in the current cycle reached 3,621 kg/ha, the largest ever recorded,” said Conab.
Goiás was the state that obtained the highest productivity in this harvest, with 4,183 kg/ha. Rio Grande do Sul, with 2,342 kg/ha, was the federative unit that obtained the smallest result, since its producing regions have crossed high temperatures and irregularities in rainfall from December until the end of February.
Corn and cotton
Another product with a record result was corn, considering the 3 grain crops, estimated at 6,391 pounds per hectare in the current cycle.
“With this, there is a total production of 139.7 million tons in the 2024/25 harvest, with an increase of 20.9% compared to 2023/24 and the largest collection of the product already recorded by the State”, says the company.
The first harvest has an estimated production of 24.9 million tons, which corresponds to a growth of 8.6% compared to the previous harvest. With 97% of the collection area and 3% maturing, the second crop should record a 24.4% growth in production, expected in 112 million tons.
The third corn harvest is still being developed. It is expected that it will translate into a production of 2.7 million tons.
Records are also planned in the production of cotton, with crops that produce 4.1 million tons, a result that represents a maximum of 9.7% compared to the previous crop. This increase occurs from 7.3% of the sown area, as well as favorable weather conditions.
“At the end of August, 72.8% in the area was already collected and 27.2% were maturing,” said Conab.
Rice and beans
With the harvest already closed, the rice amounted to 12.8 million tons produced. The result was a “significant growth” of 20.6% in 2023/24. It is, according to the company, the largest 4th ever registered, behind the volumes obtained in the seasons 2010/2011, 2004/2005 and 2003/2004.
“The increase reflects the expansion of 9.8% in the sown area and favorable weather conditions, in particular to Rio Grande do Sul, the main production status,” said the company.
The three crops of beans are estimated at around 3.1 million tons, which will guarantee the internal offer of the country.
Winter cultures
With the sowing already completed, wheat was the product that, among the winter crops, was distinguished. In terms of the area, it presented a 19.9% reduction compared to the previous crop, for a total of 2.4 million hectares in the current cycle.
In terms of productivity, it tends to present a recovery, leaving 2,579 pounds per hectare in 2024 at 3,077 kg/has this year.
“However, production is estimated at 7.5 million tons in this harvest, a 4.5% reduction compared to last season,” said Conab.
