The 75th edition of the Locarno Film Festival, held from August 3 to 13, 2022, will award its Grand Prix, the Pardo d’oro, to Brazil’s Julia Murat’s The 34th Rule. Discover the winners.
The 75th edition of the Locarno Film Festival is coming to an end. After a ten-day competition in very hot weather and no fewer than 226 films being screened, the jury, chaired by Michel Merkt, announced its verdict. The film “Rule 34” by the Brazilian director Julia Murat won the Pardo d’oro, the main prize, at the Locarno festival.
Very sultry, the feature film follows the story of Simone, a 23-year-old young woman who studies criminal justice and advocates for women’s rights. At night, she plies her trade as a “camgirl” – a term used to refer to people who carry out sexual performances online – for virtual currency. The new experience forces the heroine to explore her dark side and her hidden desires.
The film’s title refers to “Rule 34An expression born on the Internet, which means that for any image, expression or situation there is a pornographic equivalent. Giona A. Nazzaro, Artistic Director of the Locarno Film Festival, describes this Grand Prix as “A bold and political work that aims to leave a mark“. Rule 34 is projected on Piazza Grande this August 13, during the closing ceremony.
