Spielberg quiz: Impossible to recognize these 10 movie posters!

33 films and the same number of film posters for the famous director. Can you identify ten of them with just one highly magnified detail?

We no longer represent Steven Spielberg, one of the most famous names in Hollywood. A man with thirty-three feature films and almost as many successes since 1974’s Sugarland Express, to the recent remake of West Side Story with ET The extraterrestrial, the Indiana Jones saga or even Jurassic Park.

And when one is interested in the iconography of his world, and in particular the posters that accompanied the release of many of these films, two names come to mind, those of artists John Alvin and Drew Struzan.

The former had a long and fruitful relationship with the director, for whom he created many posters, including Jurassic Park, The Color Purple, The Empire of the Sun or the iconic ET poster. On the latter, we see the alien’s fingers. And the young hero Elliot makes contact while creating a light source.

An idea that came from Spielberg himself, inspired by the works of Michelangelo, Creation of Adam Painted on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Note that the child’s hand actually belongs to the designer’s daughter herself, and that her signature can be very carefully hidden in the earth below. Other works of John Alvin include Blade Runner, The Goonies, The Mask and several collaborations with Tim Burton (Beetlejuice, Mars Attacks, Batman…)

As for Drew Struzan, he has also repeatedly collaborated with the director, for whom he created posters for Hook and two of the four Indiana Joneses (The Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade). We also owe him the iconic posters for the Back to the Future trilogy.

So today we’re going to play with all those visuals as you’re going to have to identify Steven Spielberg movie posters using a simple isolated detail.
