Hallmark has become famous for a particular brand of films for the whole family. Especially at Christmas, viewers flock to the canal and its branches in search of sweet cocoa romance, always served happily ever after. Behind the scenes, however, the drama may be a little more real several Hallmark actors have abandoned ship for GAC Family , while the competing network builds its own corner of the market. Stars like Candace Cameron Bure and Danica McKellar may seem like huge losses for Hallmark, but the network’s superiors don’t seem too worried.
Indeed, when Hallmark Executive Vice President of Programming Lisa Hamilton Daly spoke at the Television Critics Association press conference on August 10, she seemed to be giving a subtle blow to those who left. . Explaining that Hallmark is always looking for new actors to join the family, she said (via Yahoo! ):
We have kept a lot of our talent in the options, with the exception of the Christmas movies. We are constantly looking for new talents. I think there are a lot of talent that we have worked with in the past and that GAC is working with now, but I think we are also constantly trying to evolve the talent pool we work with. I think we’ve rounded up almost everyone we’re really excited to have. This is where we are.
Lisa Hamilton Daly acknowledged that some talents are now working with GAC Family, but in practice she said Hallmark has narrowed down the actors she wants to collaborate with in the future. Now, she said “almost everyone,” so there may be a handful of artists that she and other executives were really sad to see gone. Hallmark’s message is clear enough, though: give it a try and thank you for the memories.
Candace Cameron Bure has signed an exclusive deal with GAC Family in the following April The departures of Jen Lilley and Danica Patrick from Hallmark . Patrick was the first to jump ship in October 2021 and although he was a suspect Patrick’s move to the rival network would trigger others (and this has been the case with some like Trevor Donovan and Jessica Lowndes), many stars have obviously decided to stay with Hallmark.
bad Girls Actress Lacey Chabert has signed an exclusive deal with Hallmark in February to act and produce TV movies and other content for the next two years. Jonathan Bennett signed his exclusive contract in April after being cast to play the lead role of Hallmark’s first Christmas movie with a major LGBTQ + storyline, christmas house in 2020. Holly Robinson Peete and Andrew Walker are familiar faces to anyone who has been on the channel at Christmas and are joined by even more talented names, such as Aimeé Teegarden of Friday night lights celebrities, Taylor Cole e Brennan Elliott, who signed his contract in March . Add to that an increase in Hallmark’s scripted series and there’s not much reason to look back.
It’s unclear how much bad blood there really is between Hallmark and the actors who have gone to their rival, but there’s no denying that both chains have some strong hits and, in this case, maybe they are all spectators who are the real winners?
