Did you know that Brie Larson almost never played Captain Marvel on the big screen? The American actor actually refused the role twice!
Since 2018, Brie Larson has been playing the superhero Captain Marvel on the big screen. But the American actor almost never slipped into the character’s costume, as he turned down the role twice before finally accepting the offer!
“I remember getting a call from my team when I was shooting Kong: Skull Island. They told me that Marvel wanted me to play this character.”Brie Larson says in 2020 on his Youtube channel. “I didn’t think I could do it. I had so much anxiety. It was too much for me. I didn’t think I could handle it.”
Brie Larson, who had recently won an Oscar for her performance in Room, therefore asked her team to inform Marvel of the rejection, but the studio returned the accusation a few months later. “They called me. My team asked me, ‘Are you really sure of yourself?’continues the actor.
Twice-burned Marvel is trying its luck a third time, but because, as Larson explains, the door wasn’t really closed on his team. “Every time I turned them down, I thought they were going to turn Marvel down, but actually they didn’t at all. I think they did it because they thought I’d be great in the role.”The American notes.
Brie Larson will finally accept Marvel’s offer. After filming Kong: Skull Island, he meets with the studio to discuss the film’s script and discover the character model. “I was very concerned about what they were trying to do, what they were talking about. It was very gradual.”– says the actor. “I was very surprised how they talked about feminism, how they dealt with it. There were only female screenwriters, one female director, as many female voices as possible.”
Brie Larson was officially announced as Captain Marvel in the summer of 2016. He will return to the character in July 2023 for a sequel titled The Marvels.
