What is that, companion? and The quatrilhoMarcos of Brazilian production in the 1990s and which were nominated for the Oscar for best foreign film, will return to theaters in September. The initiative of Cinecolor Films Brasil rescues titles that marked generations, bringing new audiences of classics of Brazilian cinema.
What are the movies?
What is that, companion? (1997), inspired by the book of Fernando Gabeiraportrays one of the most striking episodes of the military dictatorship in Brazil: the kidnapping of American ambassador Charles Elbrick in 1969. Bruno Barreto (Last Stop 174) and starring FERNANDA TORRES (I’m still here), Pedro Cardoso (The man who copied), Matheus Nachtergaele (The Auto da Compadecida) and Luiz Fernando Guimarães (The normal – the filme), the film reached international repercussions and was nominated for the Oscar for best foreign film in 1998.
The quatrilho (1995) is set in Rio Grande do Sul of the 1910s and follows the trajectory of two couples from Italian immigrants who share the same house and see their lives change when one of them decides to break traditions and follow the heart. Directed by Fábio Barreto (Lula, the son of Brazil) and starring Gloria Pires, Patrícia Pillar, Alexandre Paternost and Bruno Camposthe feature won the audience with their delicate photography and narrative, being nominated for the Oscar for best foreign film in 1996, marking the return of Brazil to the awards after more than 30 years without a nomination.
