Qualitative research results of the Crossing Institute Show Governor well positioned in the regions outside of San Paolo

Main mentioned to happen to the former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in 2026, the governor of San Paolo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), lives a paradox: while his management accumulates among the Paulist, his electoral force grows.

This is what shows the qualitative research of the Crossing Institute in the first half of this year in the Federal District and in the cities of different states of the country, including Saint Paul, Bahia, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do sul and Santa Catarina. The report, produced at the request of the EstadãoIt brings together perceptions of focal groups on the governor and has an analytical character, without scientific rigor.

“In all the groups we have created in San Paolo, there is an evident contrast between the evaluation of the management of Tarcisio and its public image. There is a literal detachment. It seems that the fault of the weaknesses in the management does not fall, in a sort of armor of the image.”

According to Dorgan, when attention focuses on the state government, not directly the governor, the voters have no difficulty in underlining the dissatisfaction and recurring criticism appears in various management areas. In safety, despite the approval of the policy of the “lines line” of the Secretary of Public Security, Guilherme Derritite (PP), the death of the agents and the accusations of violence of the police have shaken the trust of the population, which also reports a growing sense of insecurity.

In education, families often classify the state network as “weak” and cite structural problems in schools and in non -motivated teachers. Already in transport, the complaints focus on the large São Paulo region, with emphasis on the overcrowding of the subway and the CPTM.

Sabesp’s privatization, which was one of the promises of the Tarcisio campaign, divides opinions. The poorest and living in the houses are the most critical, while the middle class and residents of the apartment show less resistance. In the qualitative research conducted in Greater San Paolo, it is common to perceive that the service has worsened and that night cuts and water bills have increased.

“Although Sabesp’s privatization is not yet a topic that weakens the image of Tarcisio, it can become a point of deconstruction, especially if the opposition can explore concrete examples of increasing rates or quality”, says Dorgan.

However, in the evaluation of the CEO of The Crossing, in the internal cities and ABC the perception that Tarcisio gives priority to capital prevails and has not influenced the life of the residents of these regions.

“This strengthens an impression of” distant governor “, but which, in line with the separation between image and management that we show, does not become a personal refusal. The effect is more than one” I don’t know what it does here, but it seems that it goes well “, explains the political scientist.

Despite the difficulties in the courtyard itself, the search for San Paolo and other states indicates that Tarcisio is seen as a politician who escapes the polarization between Lula and Bolsonaro, becoming a competitive name to face Lula in 2026.

“With Tarcisio, the controversy is no longer left against the right and revolves around the approval or disapproval of Lula – Something like the position of the PSDB between 1994 and 2014. Which qualitatives indicate that it can attract the same part of the government of Lula as regular and what is identified with Bolsonaro, for those who appear as a natural Heir”, says Dorgan.
