Several world leaders should formally recognize a Palestinian state on Monday, in a summit summoned by France and Saudi Arabia, a measure that, according to Israel, will damage the prospects of a peaceful end of the war in Gaza.
Although the New York summit can raise the morale of the Palestinians, it is not expected to produce changes in the ground, where the right government of Israel’s history said that there will be no Palestinian conditions as it continues with its fight against the Hamas militant group.
The solution of two states was the basis of the peace process supported by the United States, started by the Oslo agreements of 1993. The process was strongly resistance from both sides and practically died.
Israel and the United States will boycotte the summit, said Israel ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, describing the event as a “circus”.
Sunday United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Portugal have recognized a Palestinian state. France and five other countries should do it formally on Monday, during the meeting preceding the United Nations General Assembly.
Although most European countries now recognize a Palestinian state, both Germany and Italy have reported that it is unlikely to take this measure soon.
Germany, who has long supported Israel for a long time due to its responsibility for the Holocaust, has become more critical of Israeli politics, insisting while the recognition of a Palestinian state should reach the end of a political process to achieve a two -states solution.
The German government spokesman also declared on Monday that there should be no further annexes in the territory occupied by Israel.
Italy has declared that the recognition of a Palestinian state could be “counterproductive”.
Russia still believes that a two -state solution is the only way to resolve the conflict, said the Kremlin on Monday.
