Presenters make participation crosses while facing cancellations and suspensions of their programs
US television witnessed a rare moment on Tuesday: two of the most influential nighttime presenters appear simultaneously on each other’s programs. Jimmy Kimmel it received Stephen Colbert in a special episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! Recorded on Howard Gilman Opera House from Brooklyn Academy of Music, while Colbert He returned the visit on his own program.
The change of chairs came at a particularly delicate moment for both. Kimmel had its program temporarily suspended by ABC in September, after pressure from FCC (Federal Communications Commission, regulatory body of communications in the United States). Already Colbert faces the countdown to the end of the LATE SHOWcanceled before the fusion of Paramount with the Skydance In summer. The final episodes of the presenter veteran are scheduled for the spring of 2026.
During the appearances, the two spared no comments on the American political situation. Kimmel made a joke about “plastic ketchup bottles in the White House” when receiving Colbertin reference to Donald Trump. When he reversed the papers and sat down as a guest in the Colbertthe presenter was more straightforward: “I never imagined that we would have such a president, and I hope we never had such a president again. I never imagined that there would be a situation in which the president of our country was celebrating that hundreds of people were losing their jobs, that someone was pleased. This is the absolute opposite of what a leader in our country should be.”
The meeting, however, went beyond political criticism. The two presenters took the moment to share the uncertainties that surround their future professionals and celebrate the friendship built over the years in the command of competing programs.
The night ended with a symbolic toast. Kimmel, Colbert and Guillermostage assistant KimmelThey raised their cups “to good friends, great jobs, and night TV,” a melancholy farewell from an age that seems to be coming to an end to both.
