“She-Hulk” arrives on Disney + this Thursday, and the spoke with lead writer of the series, Jessica Gao, who revealed that the Marvel boss has cut some lines from production.
The series will introduce Jennifer Walters, a lawyer who is also a cousin of Bruce Banner, the Hulk played by Mark Ruffalo, who ends up gaining similar powers to his relative. Therefore, the character played by Tatiana Maslany needs to adapt her life to the new condition of superhero.
Despite promising a lot of action, the series also has several lines, further expanding Marvel’s comedic side, and with the protagonist stepping in to speak directly to the audience – something called how to break the fourth wall – as you can already see in the trailers released so far.
In our conversation with Jessica Gao, lead writer and executive producer of the series, we asked her carte blanche to make fun of the Marvel Cinematic Universe itself. She confirmed that for the most part, the She-Hulk writers had complete freedom to create, but there were top-down interventions in some lines.
“For the most part we had complete freedom,” Gao said. “But there were some jokes about Kevin [Feige, o presidente da Marvel Studios]or other executives, they got it cut, because they said, ‘this is too bad’, you know ?, he said with a laugh, without going into exactly which lines were cut.
The series stars Maslany and has cast names such as Jameela Jamil and Ginger Gonzaga, as well as guest appearances by well-known Marvel characters, such as Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk himself, Tim Roth’s Abomination, Supreme Sorcerer Wong and even Charlie. Cox as Daredevil.
“She-Hulk” arrives on Disney + on August 18th.
