Moving on to art this evening, “De l’air” is inspired by a true story about German actress Miriam Meertens, who has cystic fibrosis. During his lung transplant, his difficult past is revealed by flashbacks.
Რ About?
In 2012, Miriam Meertens’s life changed forever. Suffering from cystic fibrosis, he calls his phone during the full performance on stage and brings the news that saves him: the lungs are available. So transplanting it is only a matter of hours. A 40-year-old mother goes to the operating room with relatives to get a transplant.
During his surgery, his story is told in flashbacks. From an early age Miriam Meertens, played by Eva McBach (crime: Germany), has a very different daily life from other girls. Suffering from cystic fibrosis, he undergoes significant treatment to relieve it, which does not allow him to actually do what he wants.
If doctors were pessimistic about the development of the disease and its future, the young woman would always prove to them that she could achieve the goals while breaking the prognosis for a long time.
Broadcast this Friday, April 8 at Arte at 20:55 and available on Arte.tv until May 7, 2022
The true story of Miriam Meertens
De l’air is inspired by the actor’s autobiographical novel “Let ‘s Delay Tomorrow: How I Lied Death” (this book is not translated into French) published in 2018, in Germany. Miriam Meertens revealed her illness to the public very late in 2017, having been on stage for years so that no one would suspect anything.
If the actress does not play her role in the film, she still lends her qualities to Dr. Bertel, who gently and kindly accompanies the young woman throughout her illness. This character has an undeniable influence on Miriam Meertens’s decisions, with whom she shares a sincere relationship.
This autobiographical film, directed by Geoffrey Reese, deals with the fate of a woman who refuses to be defined only by illness and who, with courage and diligence, gives her a meaningful life. Her storytelling is very exciting and hopeful for those with a serious illness. Sometimes despite the dramatic events, the atmosphere is far from tragic, on the contrary. The message is clear, we must hope.
