Those words about homeless observation apparently caught the attention of the Los Angeles Mission, because TMZ reports that Kanye West met with leaders of organizations in November to look for ways to address the city’s homelessness crisis. Apparently, Ye visited the shelter and promised to use his activities to help those in need find work, get an education or find housing.
Sources told the site that little or nothing has been done since and the Mission has not been able to contact Kanye West since November. It’s not all negativity, however, as Los Angeles mission president and CEO Troy Vaughn told TMZ they are “extremely optimistic” that the rapper will help them with projects in the coming months. Vaughn said in a statement:
We absolutely had collaborative conversations with Ye about improving homeless lives on Skid Row, especially through design, as she mentioned in her tweet. We are extremely optimistic that Ye will be a life force in helping us kickstart the Skid Row revitalization project in the coming months.
The keywords are “willpower,” but given that Kanye West has already done many good things for the Los Angeles Mission and the city’s homeless in the past, there is no reason to believe that things will never happen. Ye also held a Sunday service at Skid Row in 2019 and was let go by the Los Angeles Mission last November after the music and fashion icon provided more than 1,000 meals for the shelter.
