Juventude loses 4-1 against Palmeiras and definitively sinks into the relegation zone
In a postponed match of the 12th round of the Brazilian championship, Juventude suffered a tough 4-1 defeat against Palmeiras, this Saturday (11), at Allianz Parque. The result extended the streak of consecutive victories of the team led by Thiago Carpini, who are now at six games without a win. As a result, the Rio Grande do Sul team remains in second place in the table.
After the match, Thiago Carpini adopted a more decisive tone in the interview and asked the players to change their attitude, asking for more commitment and responsibility to avoid relegation to Serie B. The coach preferred not to go into tactical questions, but recognized that the group had shown a significant decline in competitiveness throughout the championship.
– It makes no sense to come here to talk about strategy, choices, individual pieces, when our behavior is terrible. We need to have a better attitude as a team fighting for survival. When we fight for survival, we expect some attributes that we do not find. We had to get to a certain point. But today’s match was definitely out of context in terms of competitiveness. So it’s hard to work on strategic issues when you don’t have the energy to play a game of this size. The athletes, based on a conversation we had in the locker room, I think they also need to take responsibility. I think there is very little commitment to oneself. I need more from the group. They need to know this and publicly take responsibility. And it’s not a transfer, no. The responsibility lies with the command, it is mine and always will be – said the coach.
With 11 games remaining in the competition, Juventude is already starting to outline their strategies. The team currently occupies 19th place in the table, with 23 points, five points away from the relegation zone.
– We too do the math you did, but our moment is to win the next match, to get back to the top. The attributes are the ones we created ourselves. This same team is competing better, taking more initiative. This problem change due to situations. It may have influenced the collective issue. We have to play the next match. Returning to compete in the behaviors that we had prepared to adopt during the week and that we did not implement in the match. It’s becoming increasingly difficult, that’s clear, but we know that everything is still very open. – finished.
Juventude returns to the field next Thursday (16th), when they face Fluminense, at 9.30pm, at the Maracanã.
