Eduardo Ribeiro lifts the trophy on the M25 in Rio de Janeiro

The tennis player overtook the Bolivian Dellien, beating another favorite and smiling again after more than two years

Brazilian tennis title in the Professional Tennis Banco BRB / ENGIE – M25 Rio de Janeiro Circuit held by the Rio Tennis Academy, in Laranjeiras, in the South Zone of Rio. The event was second in importance only to the Rio Open of men’s tournaments held this year in the wonderful city and entry for the public was free.

Gaucho from Santa Cruz do Sul and based in Itajaí (SC), Eduardo Ribeiro defeated another favourite, this time third-seeded Bolivian Murkiel Dellien, 5/7 6/2 6/1 after 2h17min on a hot day with strong sunshine after a week of bad weather in the capital of Rio.

Ribeiro, out for two and a half months due to a torn adductor muscle in his leg, returns to enjoy a result he hadn’t achieved since August 2023 and wins his second M25 title in his career, the first since 2022: “Very happy, I had worked hard, it was a bit of a turbulent period. Thanks to my family, to the team. I reached the final a few years ago, but I hadn’t won the title in a while. Very happy. Yes it’s about enjoying the day, having fun, moving forward, continuing to work and more will come”, underlined the tennis player who was leading 4-1 in the first set, conceded the comeback, but left with the cup.

“I started very well, completely dominating, I opened a good distance, but he grew, I relaxed. But I want to thank Narciso for keeping me firm and positive in the game. Then he fell physically and I was able to take advantage of it”, underlined the tennis player who played in the sun, cold and rain during the week, on the indoor court on Thursday due to consecutive days of bad weather and finished in the warm climate typical of Rio de Janeiro with a view of Christ the Redeemer: “I managed to adapt, to face the circumstances during the week. There is nothing better to end with this title with this sun, this look here in the gym, we could not see Christ this week due to bad weather, but today, a great day, it gave me the strength to lift this cup.”

The Rio Tennis Academy has a partnership with Banco BRB, ENGIE, Kallas, FILA, Wilson, Granado and LaFels.
