The origins of the Indiana Jones mythology are two of the most influential figures in pop culture: George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. The idea of an adventurous archaeologist was born in Lucas’ mind shortly before Star Wars hit theaters. A project inspired by his childhood TV series, he initially proposed it to screenwriter Philip Kaufman, who ultimately had to turn down the idea of going and working on a Clint Eastwood film.
