Roku is WIN smarter features to make it easier to search for films, series and broadcasts on the platform. In the coming months, the software will feature improved discovery tools, deeper personalization, AI-powered voice, and real-time sports updates. See the list of new features below.
Voice assistant
Launched as a command tool, Roku Voice is becoming an “AI-powered intelligent entertainment guide.” The user can ask questions about movies, shows and actors and see the answers directly on the TV. For example, try asking questions like:
The user can also ask follow-up questions and Roku Voice will follow the conversation. Responses appear right on the screen, with quick launch options for relevant content.
Don’t joke
Trailer playback is now more interactive with the new “Ways to Watch” button so the user can watch it directly in the preview. The “Search” will be extended to the Direct TV Zone and, in the coming months, to the Live TV Channel Guide, in addition to the “What to Watch” section, available since last month.
“When you search for your next entertainment, you’ll see where to watch each title, no extra clicks needed. We’ve highlighted up to two streaming apps for each title, displayed based on your active subscriptions. Want to see more options? Simply select a title to explore more details and get started right away,” the statement said.
Real time
Roku Sports will get two new features to make sports discovery easier: live scores and reminders. As the user navigates, live scores will now appear in game tiles, bringing together scores and results from multiple sporting events in one place.
The subscriber will have the option to hide scores if desired. Plus, you can set reminders for upcoming fights right on the screen, and Roku will let you know with a mobile notification when it’s time to watch.

In the palm of your hand
The Roku Mobile app will be enhanced with shortcuts like closed captioning, remote search control, sleep timer, daily trivia, and more.
The platform will also have a “Rate” button, which will allow you to like, dislike, or mark a title as seen, which helps recommend new titles in the future. And soon, the For You page will have a navigation bar with content organized into categories like TV shows, movies, and sports.

Complete experience
The platform also revealed the new Vankyo Roku TV Smart Projector H500R, available this week in the United States. The projector brings Roku’s TV operating system to an ultraportable design, with customer-favorite features like wireless audio expandability, a single, simple remote and quick setup.
Additionally, Bluetooth headset mode has launched globally on the Roku Streaming Stick and Streaming Stick Plus, offering “clear, private audio” for both listening to music and watching late-night TV.
