“Director’s Cut” edition will be released on the rapper’s birthday and will feature new tracks from the original era

JPEGMAFIA announced that it will launch on October 22nd — its birthday — the deluxe version of Scaring the Hoes (2023), titled Scaring the Hoes Director’s Cut. The project, carried out in collaboration with Danny Brownwas one of the most celebrated and chaotic albums of 2023, uniting noisy experimentalism, samples and sharp verses from two of the most creative names in current alternative hip hop.

In the story published on his Instagram, JPEG confirms that the new edition will bring three new tracks from the same recording era from the original album, as well as a “cleaner” version of the project. Check out the full statement:

“Releasing the final deluxe edition of the year, Scaring the Hoes: Director’s Cuton my birthday, October 22nd. It includes three previously unreleased tracks from that era, along with a cleaner version of the original album. I am very grateful to have work that I own and am proud of. The focus now is on the new. I haven’t released new music in two years, but even with our eyes on the future, it’s good to take a step back and appreciate the work of the past. Thank you for supporting me and supporting this album. See you soon.”

The impact of the project

The original album, released in March 2023, was received with enthusiasm by critics and a fan base that expanded enormously thanks to the duo’s explosive performance on stage and on social media.

The mix of industrial jazz, glitch hop, distorted soul and anarchic lyrics was a success — the album appeared on best of the year lists. Tracks like “Lean Beef Patty”, “Kingdom Hearts Key” and “Fentanyl Tester” stood out for their abrupt production, dry sample cuts and sharp verse exchanges between JPEG and Danny. Others, like “God Loves You”bring an almost gospel irony about faith and nihilism, while “Orange Juice Jones” became a cult favorite.

To JPEGMAFIAthe project reinforces his reputation as one of the most daring artists in contemporary experimental music. With a trajectory marked by albums such as Veteran (2018), All My Heroes Are Cornballs (2019) and LP! (2021), he gained a loyal audience by crossing politics, punk aesthetics and cutting-edge digital production — always challenging traditional hip hop formats.
