Christina Ricci admits that she is ashamed of her performance in ‘Casper’

“I didn’t try very hard.”

Actress Christina Ricci is well aware that her movie ‘Casper’ has a huge fan following. Nevertheless, she does not share that same enthusiasm for the Universal Pictures film released in 1995.

The actress was a recent guest on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, where she discussed her career., which began when I was a child. After explaining how she got into the industry, Ricci and Maron got to two of her earliest classics: one is ‘Casper,’ and another, of course, ‘The Addams Family.’

The actress, 42, wasted no time in calling Casper one of her favorite movies, not because she thinks it’s a bad movie, but because Ricci just thinks she’s wrong in the movie.

“If you really see Casper, I’m terrible,” Ricci told Maron. “People get very upset when I say that. And I say, ‘No, it’s a wonderful movie. It is a childhood treasure. But I’m terrible at it‘”.

Ricci was 13 when she was cast in the supernatural comedy-drama based on the Harvey Comics cartoon character Casper the Friendly Ghost.

Ricci starred opposite Bill Pullman, who played the role of his father, paranormal therapist James Harvey. Malachi Pearson voiced Casper McFadden’s CGI ghost, and Devon Sawa brought the character to life when he takes human form.

For many of his fans, especially those who were children in the 90s, the movie is a classic and also a Halloween tradition. However, Ricci said that he can’t help but acknowledge his lack of effort in the role.

“A lot of things happened in my life),” he explained. “Everything was very difficult. I was always upset, and I guess I didn’t try very hard, to tell you the truth. Shamefully I don’t think I tried as hard as I should“.

Ricci recently rewatched the film when he showed it to his young son, 8-year-old Freddie Heerdegen. Her feelings about his performance have not changed, she said.

“And I remember thinking, ‘Wow. Okay. That wasn’t a believable line reading at all. There was just no engagement.'” Ricci is now immersed in the series. For one thing, she’s engaged to ‘Yellowjackets,’ where she takes it upon herself to be the adult version of Misty’s character. The series is preparing its second part and left many unknowns for the new chapters.

In addition, Ricci will also be in the series ‘Wednesday’, the series focused on the character that she brought to life in ‘The Addams Family’. At the moment her role in the Netflix production is unknown, but we will discover it this coming fall.
