Before Kaamelott 2: Where were we at the end of the first part? Here’s everything you need to know before going to the movies

While Kaamelott: The Second Part hits theaters this Wednesday, still helmed by Alexandre Astier, here’s a rundown of what you need to know before watching this film, part of a major saga that began on television in 2004.

Arthur/Lancelot battle

At the end of the first film, Arthur arrives at Camelot to dethrone Lancelot and end his tyrannical reign. A battle ensues between the king and his former commander, and Arthur gains the upper hand. He has the opportunity to kill Lancelot, but fails to save his life, lowering Excalibur. “can’t”Lancelot says before running away.

At the same time, thanks to the repeated blows of their war machines, the Burgundians, Arthur’s allies, destroyed the castle of Camelot on his orders. Still inside, the King of Brittany, still depressed, lies on a table waiting for the ceiling to collapse. Only thanks to the intervention of two members of the “new generation” of the Round Table, Iagu (Hugo Lehmann) and Mehben (Ariane Astier), Arthur is saved and escapes from the ruined castle alive.

There was a post-credits scene

As hope is reborn in the kingdom of Logres, as life reclaims its rights after tyranny, we see Lancelot back in the ruins of the castle, the ruins of his father King Ban’s castle, and a huge apparition looms before him, looming menacingly. Then the credits start, but at the end of the credits there is a final scene.

A hooded man crawls through the snow, looking exhausted. He suddenly rolls onto his back and reveals his face. Fans of the series will immediately recognize Melegant, a mysterious character sent by the gods to punish King Arthur for doing something wrong (see our quick recap of the entire series). He spends all of Season 5 pushing Lancelot to the “dark side,” quoting the Star Wars saga that Alexander Astier loves.

The king’s refusal to kill Lancelot is a new affront to the gods, symbolizing the return of Melegant. Does he have the idea to pursue Arthur, or is Lancelot drawn back to evil? RSVP in theaters this Wednesday!
