Celebrating its 25 years of career, Lucas Santana released, this Wednesday (22), the single The History of Our Languagepartnership with Gilberto Gilin which he celebrates, with rhythm, history and identity, the richness and complexity of the “Brazilian language”.

The song, which will be featured on the next album by Lukeis inspired by the book Powdered Latinfrom Caetano Galindoand chronicles the journey of our language from Vulgar Latin in Italy to the influences of Tupi-Guarani in Brazil.

“It’s as if our language were a female being that was born in the region of Lazio-Italy and then made a long journey until it met the Tupi-Guarani, with the arrival of the Portuguese caravels in Brazil. On this journey it met other “people”, which are the languages that are part of the formation of Portuguese and consequently Brasiliano. They are Occitan, Celtic, Galician, Mozarabic, Tupi-Guarani”explains Lucas.

The artist also celebrated the opportunity to work again with Gil after being part of the artist’s band, as a flutist, in the 1994 project “Unplugged”. “When I finished composing The History of Our Language, I immediately thought of calling Gil to sing with me. An artist who officially symbolizes the connection between popular music and the Brazilian language, precisely the subject of my song. He was the one who introduced me to the Brazilian music scene (…), so this duo with him unites the first chapter of my story with the most recent one”complete.
