The announcement precedes the release of Stiller and Meara – Nothing is Lost, the actor’s new documentary for Apple TV+, about the life and partnership of his parents
The duo appeared on numerous television and variety shows during the 1960s and 1970s — including 36 appearances on The Ed Sullivan Showaccording to a press release — and established themselves as one of the most beloved comedy duos in America.
“Seeing my parents’ work preserved at the National Comedy Center means a lot, because the material they left behind was not only a gift to our family, but to everyone who wants to understand comedy as a creative process,” he said. Ben Stiller. “They would be so proud to know that the National Comedy Center is bringing this archive to life in a way that can inspire and educate future generations.”
According to Dr. Laura LaPlacaresponsible for the institution’s collection, the collection includes since “from the couple’s first jam sessions in the legendary Chicago group *Compass Players, to love letters that show the beginning of their relationship, as well as handwritten drafts of sketches like Computer Dating and The Last Two People on Earth, which made history on the Ed Sullivan stage.” LaPlaca he also highlighted that the collection brings together tens of thousands of pages of Stiller and Meara.
The donation coincides with the release of the new documentary directed by Ben Stiller, Stiller and Meara – Nothing is Lostwhich explores the life, love and artistic trajectory of his parents. The film arrives on Apple TV+ on October 24th. Check out the trailer below:
