Thirty years after Julian Schnabel’s biography of Jean-Michel Basquiat, a new film focusing on the artist’s life is in the works called Samo Lives. In the artist’s shoes we find the actor Calvin Harrison Jr., seen in the films 12 Years A Slave, Waves or even The Monster, offered on Netflix.
While filming has just finished, term reveals the entire cast. A surprising name is still included in this list, that of Geoffrey Wright (Batman). The actor played Jean-Michel Basquiat in Julian Schnabel’s biopic in 1996. His role here, like all other actors, is not specified.
However, we know this Anthony Starr – recognized for his interpretation of Homelander in the TV series The Boys – lends his features to the king of pop art, Andy Warhol. Several photos of the actress, accompanied by Calvin Harrison Jr., appeared on the Internet.

What does “Samo” mean?
Directed by Julius Ona – Captain America: Brave New World earlier this year -, Samo lives Follows Jean-Michel Basquiat’s rise through the New York art scene as he confronts his past and future.
The film’s title, Samo Lives, refers to the acronym Jean-Michel Basquiat and artist Al Diaz used to sign their graffiti on the streets of New York in the late seventies. Samo corresponds to the expression “Same old bird” – “always the same shame” in French.
