The Monster of Florence on Netflix: Is it true that a French couple was among the victims?

In 1985, the Monster of Florence ended its bloody saga: that year, it killed a French couple passing through the region. When they prepared this idyllic trip, Nadine Morio (36 years old, shoe store manager) and Jean-Michel Kraveishvili (25 years old, musician) did not know that they were going to fall into the clutches of an untouchable killer.

Two lovers, originally from Dubs, came up with the idea of visiting the region in the easiest way. They settled for the night in a forest near the small town of San Casciano. The sun had already set when a stranger approaches their tent, tears the canvas and shoots Jean-Michel several times, and then Nadine. The 25-year-old managed to escape before being caught by the Florence monster, who finished him off with several stab wounds before hiding his body.

As for Nadine, she will undergo the same mutilation as the other women… The couple will be found early in the morning on September 8th. A few days later, the police found a piece of the young woman’s breast…

The affair started again

The Italian police have been stopping for more than 40 years. Although many suspects have been arrested and convicted, the real culprit is still at large. But in 2024, everything will take a completely new direction. Lorenzo Iovino, an American researcher specializing in bone marrow and blood diseases, was able to examine one of the bullets from the gun used by the Florence monster, a .22 caliber.

The latter was found in one of the pillows in the couple’s tent. Iovino was able to find traces of DNA there that matched those found on the victims of the 1983 (two Italians) and 1984 double murders.

Moved by these discoveries, the lawyer of Jean-Michel Kraveishvili’s family filed a request for the exhumation of the body, hoping to discover new scientific evidence that the experts of the time could not properly analyze. And it will probably make it possible to reopen the investigation in Italy, because according to Iovino, the DNA found on the bullet does not match any of the criminals arrested by the police in recent years. In other words, the killer is still on the loose.

If the families of the two French victims are still waiting for the outcome of this story, this is also the case of the French author and sociologist Salvatore Mauger. A former friend of Jean-Michel Kraveishvili published a novel called “The Tuscan Rebus: The Bloody Odyssey of Florenc’s MonsterE”, in which he conveys his own theories about this criminal case, which, according to him, was deliberately botched…

Will we one day know the identity of the monster of Florence? The Netflix series, in any case, starts off in a few ways without answering them.
