The 47-year-old suspect was arrested; The videos show the victims being attacked and threatened
The Civil Police of Caxias do Sul is investigating a criminal group involved in extortion and torture linked to drug trafficking and loan sharking. The main suspect, a 47-year-old man, was arrested after proving he acted as a violent collector between May and August this year.
According to the city’s First Police Station, the suspect collected debts from drug addicts and people in debt with illegal loans, using threats and physical attacks to obtain payments.
The investigations advanced during the execution of a search and seizure warrant, when officers found narcotic substances, various objects and three mobile phones. On two of the devices there were videos in which the man appeared to attack and threaten the victims held captive to force the payment of the sums.
The videos reveal scenes of strong violence and during the operation, clothes and tools identical to those seen in the recordings were also seized, such as a crowbar and a truncheon, found in the suspect’s car.
Based on the evidence gathered, police chief Rodrigo Kegler Duarte called for the man’s preventive detention to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of potential victims.
The Civil Police requests that people who recognize the victims in the images or who have suffered similar threats contact them via WhatsApp (54) 9 8414-1809, with a guarantee of confidentiality.
