“Modes that function normally, the city flows normally. We remain attentive. Inform yourself through official channels!”, wrote Paes, in his account on X. The mayor added that all public services will also return to functioning normally.

According to the Rio Operations and Resilience Center (COR), Phase 1 is the first classification on a scale of five and indicates that no major impact events occur. On the afternoon of Tuesday 28th the city entered Phase 2, due to the risk of high-impact events.
At this stage, the recommendation is that the population avoid traveling to the affected regions; stay in a safe place; and stay informed through the media and COR’s official channels.
The streets around the complexes of Alemão, Penha, Chapadão, São Francisco Xavier, in the North Zone, Freguesia (Jacarepaguá) and Taquara, in the South-West Zone, suffered temporary closures due to the mega police operation.
The restrictions have had a direct impact on the routine of residents of the capital of Rio de Janeiro. This was the case of Larissa de Souza Nascimento, who spoke with the Earth late Tuesday afternoon. Resident in Estrada do Gabinal, in Cidade de Deus, in the south-west of the capital of Rio, the 34-year-old hairdresser was unable to return home due to the violence that occurred in the municipality.

The deadliest operation in history
The Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro launched on Tuesday the 28th the largest security forces operation in the last 15 years, called Operation Containment. The most recent update was made at 5pm on Tuesday and confirmed 64 deaths. Among the victims are four police officers.
According to the government’s partial report, 81 suspects have been arrested, 72 rifles have been seized and there is still a large quantity of drugs.
