“We had moments of great loneliness”: 5 years ago, this last Asterix sequence gave Jose Garcia and Manu Payet a hard time.

Unlike Guillaume Canet, director of Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom and known for his talent in the field of horse riding, some members of his prestigious cast were not necessarily very comfortable as riders 5 years ago.

Indeed, for certain sequences in this new adventure in which the Gauls went to China, several actors, who were not at all used to it, had to learn to ride horses.

“You must see Jose on horseback”

It’s a pretty juicy anecdote that Manu Payet and Jose Garcia, translators for Biopix and Ri Qi Qi, respectively, brought to the film when they were recently on the set of the show C à vous.

“I had the chance not too long ago to shoot with Jose for the first time in Asterix. And you should definitely see Jose on a horse.”He told Manu Paye before assuring him that this image of his companion in the saddle did not leave him and even helped him overcome some anxiety.

“Well, I’ll tell you the truth. I was sitting on the plane. It was a mess, I started to get angry, and I remembered Jose riding a horse, next to me.”

Jose Garcia adds a little context:

“We’ve had moments of great solitude, so we’re not riders at all”The actor (who we’ve already seen in another Asterix feature film) clarified.

“I had a 4m Percheron. And Manu had a horse that came from Kazakhstan, something like that, super nervous. And we’re all there, like that, with Vincent Cassel, who’s at the bottom, with a horse that he’s got a lot more after doing Blueberry. (…) And at one point we hear a boy riding a horse in the distance (…). And we can feel all the horses starting to get super nervous. My Percheron, he starts vibrating. And the boy stops next to us. And when it stops, we’re all piled on top of each other. Mine went up to Vincent, and Manu went to the mountains!”

“I think about it often, Jose. I think about it often”concludes an amused Manu Paye recalling the sequence.
