The federal government releases a video and criticizes the massacre in RJ: “The fight against crime needs more intelligence”

After announcing a partnership with the Rio government, Planalto publishes a video in which it questions Operation Containment and strengthens support for the Security PEC

After establishing a partnership with the government of Rio de Janeiro to install an emergency office to fight organized crime in the state, the federal government released, on Wednesday 29th, a video in which it criticizes the recent Containment Operation, carried out in the Alemão and Penha complexes, which caused the death of over 100 people. The publication, made on social media, also defends the approval of the PEC Security, proposed by the Minister of Justice, Ricardo Lewandowski.

Titled “Explaining the police operation in Rio de Janeiro with… intelligence”, the video claims that organized crime is “one of Brazil’s biggest problems” and that it “destroys families, oppresses residents and spreads drugs and violence in cities”. The government recognizes the population’s fear of crime, but maintains that actions based solely on confrontation do not solve the problem.

“Killing 120 people is useless. Even if they are all criminals, tomorrow there will be 120 others doing the same”, reads the text of the statement.

The video highlights the risks that operations of this type pose for families, children and the police themselves, who end up exposed to the crossfire. The content also states with a play on words that you need to “aim for heads, but not people.” According to the government, the fight must focus on the “brain and heart” of criminal organizations, that is, on the financial and logistical structure that supports these groups.

As an example, the publication cites an operation carried out in August by the Public Prosecutor, with the support of the Federal Revenue Agency, which targeted the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) in the fuel sector and the financial market of São Paulo.

“Fighting crime, to work, needs more intelligence and less blood”, concludes the video. In the comments, Internet users agreed with the content.

The PEC Security aims to establish national guidelines for the action of public security bodies. According to the government, the objective is to strengthen coordination between the Union, states and municipalities in the fight against organized crime, expanding the role of the federal government in security actions across the country.
