Hulk is one goal away from joining CR7 and Messi in the 500m group

The Atlético striker broke his fast in the South American championship, scored 499 career goals and could enter the short list of top scorers

Striker Hulk broke a long 15-match fast last Tuesday (28). The goal, in fact, was fundamental in Atlético’s 3-1 victory over Independiente del Valle, which guaranteed the team the Copa Sudamericano final. The number 7 takes advantage of a deviation from the defence, finds himself face to face with the goalkeeper and pushes him into the net. During the celebration all the players hugged the striker, who cheered with the fans. This goal, however, had even greater significance for his career.

That’s because Hulk has reached the impressive milestone of 499 goals in his 21 years of professional football. Now, the Atlético idol is just one goal away from joining an extremely exclusive group. If he can find the net once again, the forward would become the sixth active player to reach the milestone of 500 or more career goals. The list, therefore, includes only famous world football stars.

Currently only five athletes are part of this group. The absolute leader is Cristiano Ronaldo, with 950 goals. Lionel Messi follows, with 897. Robert Lewandowski completes the podium, who scored 718 goals. Finally, Luís Suarez (600 goals) and Karim Benzema (502 goals) also appear on the list. Hulk, therefore, is very close to placing his name alongside these players.

His goal trajectory was built in several countries. The striker has scored for clubs such as Porto, Portugal, and Zenit, Russia, as well as spells in Japan and China. However, it was at Atlético, the club he has defended since 2021, that he scored the most goals. In total, he has already scored 131 goals in 279 games for Galo.
